Saskatchewan Wheat and Barley Commission Election Results
(December 13, 2013) The CWBA expresses its congratulations to the farmer-elected Directors of the Saskatchewan Wheat and Barley Commissions.
Seven of the seven candidates elected to the Wheat Commission support public plant breeding. Four of the six candidates elected to the Barley Commission are on record as supporting public plant breeding.
These election results were about who would control the legacy of 300 generations of crop genetics. The Canadian tradition has been to build on this legacy in the public interest. Farmers and the Canadian public have provided the funding for scientists working at public universities and Federal Government Agricultural Research stations to continue developing new varieties of wheat and other grains.
